Posture Analysis

How is Your Posture Analysed

Coloured dots are placed on anatomical landmarks which are then digitised into advanced software that accurately measures your structure.

All analyses are measured against true vertical which is the source of the extreme accuracy. This is how we are able to see if you have a healthy posture or whether your health concerns are being contributed to by your unhealthy structure.

In simple terms a poor posture or structure of the body will lead to an accelerated rate of accumulated biological damage.

What this means is that your body will not last as long as it should, and you will have a poorer quality of life because biologically accumulated damage leads to various symptoms.

What Happens when You Don’t Have a Healthy Spine and Posture?

Abnormal posture and alignment always result in spinal bone and tissue decay, degeneration and unhealthy nerve system function. The scientific term for this damaging spinal and neurological condition is Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC) or Subluxation.

Three major problems occur when the spine loses its normal shape. Firstly, the loads being transmitted through the spine change. Secondly, the spinal cord becomes distorted. Thirdly, the spine loses its normal motion. All of these can have a dramatic effect on your health and it’s important to know what these are.

1. The body has to work harder to maintain abnormal spinal configuration. This burns considerably more energy and leads to general fatigue, but in particular can cause the muscles to become painfully tired. Sometimes severely painful. This has been proposed as a major cause of fibromyalgia.

2. The ability of the spine to move is determined by its shape. If you have noticed a loss of flexibility and diminished movement as you have aged this is because of structural changes in the spine. Unfortunately this lost motion causes something even more serious to occur. Scientific evidence has shown that this lack of motion affects your brain, actually suppressing function of the brain and significantly elevating background release of stress hormones. Higher levels of stress are implicated in the aetiology of most chronic diseases. In addition, reduced motion of the spine is one of the causes of spinal arthritis.

3. Bone will remodel throughout your life. Areas of bone dealing with higher loads than they were designed for, will start to grow excessively to deal with the load. This excessive growth can be extremely harmful in the spine, because sharp bone development can compress both the spinal cord and spinal nerves causing pain and stopping vital organs from functioning normally. Remodeling of bone is also thought to be the cause of scoliosis that develops throughout life, especially in developing children.

4. The discs of the spine that separate the individual bones do not respond well to the asymmetrical loading that is caused by poor spinal configuration. The discs will start to bulge progressively trapping nerves, and compressing the spinal cord. Eventually the outer layers of the disc become weak and brittle and prone to bulging or even bursting (slipped disc). All of these changes can cause serious health problems.

5. Ligaments will become thicker and start to calcify (turn into bone), this reduces mobility of the spine and increases the rate at which other problems will start to occur.

6. The myofascia (thin connective tissue covering muscle) begin to degenerate. You will start to notice a tightness in your muscles, your body doesn’t seem to glide on the inside anymore. Movement is more “Sticky” and can be painful too as myofascia have a rich supply of pain sensors.

7. The nerve system loses its ability to function normally and only very slight pressures are required to cause a disturbance. Studies have shown that your reflexes will become less responsive, voice production changes, autonomic reflexes and sweating become abnormal, resting stress on the central nerve system increases, ability to transmit nerve signals is diminished, fluid pressure on the inside of the cord increases resulting in a reduction of nutrients and oxygen being delivered to the central nerve system, and when the cord becomes tethered mitochondria reduce energy output.

As you can see there are many important reasons to maintain the healthy configuration of your spine.
